Teeth Cleaning
Professional teeth cleaning is essential to maintain good long-term oral health. We encourage you to schedule an appointment with FL Dental Spa every six months. If you plan to undergo any cosmetic dental procedures later, having healthy teeth and gums is critical to their success.
What to Expect at a Typical Teeth Cleaning Appointment
Your appointment begins with a dental hygienist inspecting your teeth, mouth, and gums using a small mirror. Should the hygienist notice anything out of the ordinary, one of our dentists will determine if you should proceed with the routine cleaning appointment. A dentist will also return when a hygienist has finished cleaning your teeth to look for issues like tooth decay, a cracked or chipped tooth, or symptoms of oral cancer.
Plaque and Tartar Removal
Plaque contains bacteria and is a sticky substance that attaches to your teeth and can strip them of enamel if not removed thoroughly and often enough. The substance can also harden and turn into tartar, which can cause tooth decay and/or mild to moderate gum disease. Even when you brush and floss twice a day as recommended, it may not be enough to remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth. Our dental hygienist uses small, handheld scraping tools, along with an ultrasonic scaler, to remove these substances.
Brushing, Flossing, and Application of Fluoride
Once your dental hygienist has finished the process of scraping your teeth, the next step is to brush and floss them for you. You then receive a pleasant-tasting mint rinse containing fluoride to provide your teeth with extra protection from enamel loss.
X-rays
We typically take a full series of X-rays at every other appointment using a digital camera. The images of your teeth, gums, jaw, and mouth are available immediately, and they help our dentists form a baseline of your oral health between visits. X-rays also help our dental team plan an appropriate course of treatment for any specific issue diagnosed during your routine checkup.
